RiseUpToHIV is operated by RiseUpToHIV LLC, an independent Florida limited liability company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by any government agency, healthcare provider, pharmaceutical company, or nonprofit organization.
RiseUpToHIV follows the Denver Principles (1983) and uses person-first language throughout. People living with HIV are not victims, patients, or statistics — we are the authors of this work.

How This Site Was Built
RiseUpToHIV is an independent project created by a person living with HIV for over 16 years with more than a decade of HIV advocacy, community education, and patient navigation experience in Florida.
Every topic on this site was chosen and directed by the founder. The full scope of the site — what it covers, how it is framed, what it stands for, and who it is for — reflects 800+ hours of work since March 2026, built on 16 years of lived experience and over a decade of HIV advocacy. The editorial map was entirely human.
It is important to understand the distinction between what was written and what was curated on this site. The deep dive articles, guides, and essays — the newly diagnosed guide, the U=U explainer, the HIV & the South piece, the policy analyses — are original content, conceptualized and directed by the founder and built with AI assistance. The resource listings, community voices, media recommendations, and locator data are curated: sourced, organized, and supplemented with the founder's knowledge, but drawn from existing public information. In both cases, the judgment about what belongs on this site is human.
Most of the written content on this site — the deep dive library, the guides, the history pieces — is intended to last. It covers established science, community history, and peer knowledge that does not go stale. The policy pages are the exception: ADAP, PEPFAR, criminalization law, and related pages are updated when the policy ground shifts. The Florida HIV Care and Services Locator is maintained on an ongoing basis.
How We Use AI
Multiple AI tools assisted throughout — primarily Perplexity, Claude (Anthropic), and ChatGPT (OpenAI). We use them to cross-reference facts against one another, surface primary sources (CDC, NIH, HIV.gov, HRSA, UNAIDS, KFF, peer-reviewed journals), pressure-test claims, draft and structure written content, and build the site’s code. When the three tools disagree on a fact, we go back to the primary source and decide based on that source — never on AI consensus alone.
AI did not choose our topics, did not decide our editorial stance, and does not have the final word on any fact published here. Every article is read, edited, and approved by a human before publication. When we get something wrong, that is on us, not on the tools we used.
Florida HIV Care and Services Locator
The Florida HIV Care and Services Locator is a curated directory of HIV service organizations across Florida, built in direct response to the March 2026 ADAP crisis. It is not connected to a live database and does not update automatically.
Directory data was compiled from publicly available sources — including organization websites, state HIV/AIDS program directories, and third-party aggregators — and supplemented by the founder's 16 years of HIV advocacy experience and personal knowledge of the Florida HIV services landscape. Every reasonable effort was made to ensure accuracy at the time of compilation.
However, hours, locations, phone numbers, services offered, eligibility requirements, and program availability change without notice. RiseUpToHIV is not responsible for errors, omissions, or outdated information in the directory. Always verify details directly with a service provider before traveling to a location or relying on listed information for care decisions.

Inclusion of any organization, service, or resource in the directory does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation.
How We Use Data
When we cite statistics — from CDC, HIV.gov, HRSA, UNAIDS, KFF, AIDSVu, or others — we do so to show where the healthcare system is falling short, not to describe who anyone is. Behind every number on this site is a person: a neighbor, a partner, a parent, a friend.
We disaggregate data by race, gender, region, and age when the primary source does, because that is how inequities become visible and addressable. We name the source and the reporting year for every major figure. We use person-first language even inside the statistic (“Black communities make up 12% of the U.S. population and 38% of people newly diagnosed with HIV in 2023,” not “38% of new infections are Black”).
Numbers change as new surveillance data is released. We update stats when the underlying source updates, and we date-stamp material changes.
Corrections & Updates
We correct factual errors as soon as they are brought to our attention, and we date-stamp material changes to articles that carry medical, legal, or policy information. If you spot an error — a stat that’s out of date, a link that’s broken, a claim that no longer holds — please let us know through the Contact form. We read every message.
Personal Disclosure
The founder of RiseUpToHIV has, in years past, done paid HIV-related work in the pharmaceutical industry. That included a 10-month Gilead-funded patient education program and earlier consulting work with Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Both engagements ended years ago. There are no current consulting relationships, honoraria, speaker fees, advisory board seats, or financial ties to any pharmaceutical company or its agencies. This site receives no funding, direction, or editorial input from any pharmaceutical company, and all content reflects the founder’s independent judgment.
How the Site Is Funded
RiseUpToHIV does not run ads, does not sell products, does not take affiliate revenue, and does not currently accept donations. The site’s costs (domain, hosting, tools) are paid out of pocket by the founder. Nothing on this site is monetized, sponsored, or influenced by anyone paying for placement.
If that changes — for example, if we add a tip jar so readers can support the work — this page will be updated to name the platform, disclose what data it collects, and confirm that no donation grants any influence over content.
Accuracy of Information
The same caveats that apply to the Florida Locator apply to any organizational listing on this site: services, hours, locations, eligibility, and program details change without notice, and RiseUpToHIV is not responsible for errors or omissions in third-party information. Please verify with the provider before relying on any listing, and see the Contact section to report anything out of date.
